What is the Shakeology Cleanse?

About a year ago, I tried my first Shakeology Cleanse. I didn’t take pictures or record my measurements, but I know I lost around 4 pounds and quite a few inches – and it stayed off.

Now, with the release of the 21 Day Fix, I’m ready to try it again. I have read several blogs and testimonials about doing the cleanse, and I know it’s a great way to jump start a weight loss program, break through a plateau, or just cleanse your body of toxins.

From the results I have seen among my coaches and clients, typical weight loss is between 3-10 pounds depending on where you start, and while it sounds a little scary, it’s totally worth it.

What is the Shakeology Cleanse and what makes it different from other cleanses…

The Shakeology Cleanse is not truly a cleanse in the sense that people normally mean cleanse – you are not starving yourself and you still get to eat real food (not just liquids!). There are no weird combos of cinnamon and cayenne powder to drink… just nutrient rich foods along with Shakeology. You might not lose weight…

And truly, that’s not the goal! The true purpose of the Shakeology Cleanse is to clean all of the JUNK out of your body – to DETOXIFY.

Yes, MOST people will lose some weight but weight… but people with a lot of junk in their systems will probably lose the most weight. If you already eat pretty clean (focusing on whole foods and avoiding processed foods) your body won’t have to detoxify nearly as much as someone who hasn’t. But even if you don’t lose a lot of weight during the cleanse, it will prepare your body to lose weight as you start your new fitness program.

Another thing to consider is that a calorie restriction can be stressful – so the stress level in your body may prevent you from losing as much weight as you could. This is one of the main reasons not to do the Shakeology cleanse for more than 3 days, and not more than once per quarter.

DIY Banana Face Mask

banana face maskAs I have shared before, part of my post cancer journey has been purging all chemical and artificial things from my life.  Up until now, that has included the food we eat, the cleaners we use, and medications.  For the most part, we eat organic, non-gmo whole foods.  I use primarily homemade, chemical free cleaners.  And I have forgone typical medications in favor of more holistic treatments and essential oils.  But one area that I hadn’t addresses, and to be honest, I hadn’t thought much about at all, is my bathroom products.  I’m talking about skin care, makeup, shampoo, bodywash, etc.  Until two weeks ago, which is when this happened:

Madison and I were having a girls day – doing nails, face masks, etc.  For Christmas, my mom put a face mask in her stocking – one of those $1 things you can get at Target or Wal-Mart – so we got it out and put it on her face.  We left it on for about 5 minutes, per the instructions, and when we took it off, this is what her face looked like.  And it burned so badly, and for a while, I thought we were headed to the doctor.  It did clear up after a little while but it really made me step back for a minute and evaluate some things.  I have been working so hard to get rid of chemicals, but I’m still putting them on my face everyday?

So here is the first step in the next stage of my healthy journey – cutting chemicals out of our skin care products.  After this disaster with the face mask, I told Madison to look up natural recipes and we would make our own from now on, and here is our first try.  It was a big success and my face felt very moisturized when I was done.

Side note to moms – this is a fun project to do with your girls… but you might not want to let them apply the mask… just a tip from a mom who has been there…

Banana Face Mask

Ingredients:

1 banana

1 egg yolk

1 T. avocado oil

Step One:

Mash the banana.  Here’s a neat trick – before you start mashing with the fork, use it to poke the banana full of tiny holes and the mashing will be MUCH easier.  And one more thing – mash that banana as fine as you possibly can – the less chunky it is, the better it will feel on your face.

Step Two:

Mix all the ingredients together.

Step Three:

Apply to your face and let sit for 20 minutes.  Here is where my advice will come in really handy… unless you want Banana Face Mask in your ears, in your hair and down your shirt, think twice before you let your ten year old daughter apply it…  and just be warned it is very cold.

(She really looks like she is having a little too much fun, doesn’t she?  Don’t worry, I took a video when it was her turn!)

Oh, and PS – the cucumbers are optional but I think my daughter has been spending a little too much time on Pinterest; she insisted they were necessary and to be honest, they were a nice addition.  My eyes felt very refreshed along with my skin.

Step Four:

Rinse face with cold water and enjoy your fresh smooth skin!

So why did we decide on those particular ingredients for our face mask?

Banana – the Vitamin C cleans skin and helps repair blemishes and antioxidents neutralize free radicals that case early aging!

Egg Yolk – Vitamins B2 and Zinc can help heal and prevent acne, and the B3 in them aids with circulation for a healthier feel!

Avocado Oil – rejuvenates dry skin and also help prevent signs of aging.

What is Coach Summit?

What is Coach Summit?

Coach Summit is Beachbody’s annual conference. It’s when all the new products are announced and available for purchase. It’s the place where you can attend trainings from the top coaches in the business as well as guest speakers such as Seth Godin, John Maxwell and Darren Hardy. You get to meet our trainers like Tony Horton, Shaun T, Chalene Johnson, and Autumn Calabrese, have photo ops AND workout with them live. You get to meet and hear from the people who work in our corporate offices and connect with them. And it’s when all of our coaches get together to meet in person, since many of us have only met online. We get to spend time with people who understand what we are trying to achieve as coaches, to learn from each other and then take what we have learned and go out and GROW our businesses.

There is no substitute for Coach Summit. The impact it has on your business is unmatchable. The first year I went to Summit, I was less than 2 months post chemo. The weekend of Summit was the same weekend as my youngest son’s first birthday, and my husband was deployed. Guess what? I went anyway. I attended the workshops on Thursday and Friday but left early to get home for my sons birthday party on Saturday night.

It was the best decision I could have made for my business. I honestly doubt that I would still be a coach if I hadn’t attended that event. It sparked a fire in me and gave me the tools I needed to go grow my business. I went to Summit as an Emerald coach and within two weeks of returning home, I had made Diamond. In July (the month after Summit), I earned over 20 Success Club points and tripled my income. My trip more than paid for itself in July by applying what I had learned.

Normally, Coach Summit is the third weekend in June. This year the event is on June 19-21.

The total cost will be different for everyone… but the bottom line is this – it doesn’t matter how much you spend to get there… if you take what you have learned and APPLY it, you will easily earn back what you have invested and then some. I have coaches on my team who come from Okinawa and Korea to attend this event and it is worth every penny.

Make plans NOW to attend. There are ways that you can cover many of your expenses for free – earn them!! If you are serious about your business, take advantage of this opportunity and the things you CAN do to offset your costs and figure out a way you can be there. I promise you won’t regret it.

Spicy Green Beans

If you asked my husband what his favorite recipes are, I’m quite sure this one would be in his top five. It’s super quick and easy but also very tasty. I’m personally not a super huge fan of spicy things, but my husband is, so this is a recipe we can both enjoy – I add crushed red pepper to his and I leave it off mine and the kids.

Spicy Green Beans (serves 1)

Container Checklist: 1 green, 1 oil

Ingredients:

1 ¼ cup organic green beans (can be fresh or frozen

1 clove of garlic, finely chopped

1 t. olive oil

1/4-1/2 t. crushed red pepper (optional)

Heat oil in skillet on stove top over med-high heat. When it is very hot, add the green beans, garlic and red pepper and saute until they are tender, 15-20 min. We like ours to be a little singed, so I don’t stir them very often and let them get a little bit black on the outside.

You can use fresh or frozen green beans (both are approved on the 21 Day Fix!) but until we get our garden up and going, I normally use these frozen ones – the flavor is really good and they are organic.

What is a Challenge Group?

The beginning of a new year is typically the time every one makes New Year’s resolutions. You are going to eat healthy. You are going to work out. And you are DEFINITELY going to lose that last 10 pounds. So you buy a gym membership (and of course the gym is busy in January!!). You take your turn on the treadmill and one hour later, you’ve burned 30 calories.

I’m not anti gym – as a homeschool mama, I love my membership to the YMCA since it also comes with free childcare and is the perfect escape when I need a break from the chaos that is my life… but when it comes to getting a real workout in, I can do that at home in ½ the time, without the commute and since I am a busy mom with three kids, running a business from home, I need to save all the time I can.

But now January is almost over. How is the gym working out for you? Are you able to make it there 3-5 days a week? Have you seen results? Or are you slowing losing your steam without results or support to keep you going?

A challenge group is a safe place where you can get support and encouragement on your weight loss journey from other people going through the same journey!! It’s an online support group made up of other people with fitness goals similar to your own, and it’s all done through a closed Facebook group – only those in it can see what is posted there.

As your coach, I am there to help you design a program to meet your health and fitness needs using one of our programs like P90X, Insanity, T25 or the 21 Day Fix.

During the group, you will follow nutrition guidelines that come with your program along with adding in Shakeology as a daily meal replacement. It’s not a protein shake or a diet drink, it’s a nutrition supplement full of vitamins, minerals, pre and probiotics and superfoods. It boosts your energy, cuts your cravings, helps keep you full longer, and has as many vegetables in it as six salads. It is a powerful accelerator for weight loss and also fights disease. I will help you create a meal plan, give you recipes, snack ideas, motivate you and keep you accountable.

My Year of Uncomfortable Goals, Dreaming Big and Never Giving Up!!

Something I have started doing since I started coaching with Beachbody is setting yearly goals. Throughout the year, it helps me to look at the things I hope to accomplish and evaluate whether I am on track to meet those goals. So for the past week or so, I have been thinking about the things I want to accomplish within my business in the next twelve months and looking back over the past year to see which goals I was able to accomplish.

When I look back to where my career with Beachbody was at the beginning of last year, the changes are incredible. In the past 12 months from Jan 2013 to Jan 2014, my income has more than tripled. That’s a pretty amazing feat for a stay at home homeschool mama. During a year where I moved from Arizona to Oklahoma, where I was a single mom because my husband was deployed for more than ½ of the year, I was able to work from home and triple my income. The impact this has had on our family is unreal. When I decided to quit working full time to stay at home and homeschool Madison and any future children we would have, our household income took a significant hit. Not that we were struggling, but there wasn’t always extra money to do those fun things, to say yes to the kids, or to plan for the future. We were living day by day, using credit cards and now that is a thing of the past. We are able to plan out life goals for 5 or 10 or even 20 years from now – we have a plan to pay off our brand new house on 10 acres in the next five years and we aren’t worried about how we will pay for college for three kids. Prior to my career with Beachbody, none of that would have been possible.

So what did I actually do last year??

It was a great year for me – and I was able to meet many of my goals!

I ended the year as a 2 Star Diamond Coach and I was able to attend the Leadership Conference in California with a guest of my own.

I hit Success Club 5 every month and earned a free cruise to Cozumel and Grand Cayman, plus $500 to spend while I am on the cruise!  And not only that, but I was able to help some of my team earn the trip for FREE as well!!

I was only a few dollars away from hitting my yearly income goal – which is still a healthy amount for my family and a huge blessing for us.

Matt and I were able to buy our dream retirement home on ten acres, where we can start homesteading and achieve our dream of being sustainable – this would have been a stretch on his income alone, and we wouldn’t have been in a financial position to buy it. But with my additional income from Beachbody, we were not only able to purchase this house, but we will also be able to pay it off before he retires from the military in 5 years.

With the incredible achievements of my team, I ended 2013 in the top .01% of the company! This wasn’t on my goal list, but it is one of the things I am really proud of in the last year.

So what is on the tap for this year??

My slogan for the year is NEVER GIVE UP. Some of the goals I have on this list are the same goals I had this year. But with a new start, I’m ready to tackle them again with greater intensity and I will meet all of them in 2014. And since I will be focusing on helping my team achieve success this year, I will be teaching them not to give up on their dreams too – it’s never too late to TAKE CONTROL of your life and grab what you want!

I want to help AT LEAST 100 people REACH their health and fitness goals in 2014.

I am going to complete the 21 Day Fix (multiple times!) and follow the meal plan and container system to completely cut out processed foods in 2014… and while we are on that note, my next goal is…

NO POP IN 2014… this has been my biggest struggle for years, but this will be the year I finally say No More!

I will get 1,000 subscribers to my blog, newsletter, and my YouTube channel and pass 2,500 Facebook friends. The reason for this is simple – the more people I can reach, the more people I can HELP! I love helping people meet their goals, and I love coaching them along the way!

I will sponsor 60 new coaches. I will help 10 of them hit Diamond, 5 hit Star Diamond, and 2 hit Premiere. During this year, I do plan to continue my personal growth within the company, but I want to focus MORE on the success of my team – I want to help them achieve the same success I have seen and one way I am going to do that is by focusing on creating strong training programs that will teach them to duplicate my success… and that leads into my next goal, which is to…

Make 104 YouTube videos this year (2 per week), a majority of which will be TRAINING videos for my team.

I will hit SC 10 by the 10th of every month – not just hit is every month, but hit is by the 10th so I can spend the rest of the month focusing on the success of my TEAM.

I will be an ELITE coach in 2014.

By December of 2014, I will match Matt’s income and, as a result,

I WILL pay off my house with Beachbody income by 2018 before Matt retires from the Air Force.

I was in a group of four people, my fiance’ and I and my friend and her fiance’; so that made it easier to stay accountable. The first day was definitely the hardest. It was almost like my sense of smell had been maximized! I could literally smell EVERYTHING! But I stayed strong because I knew I was going to get amazing results if I stuck it out and I would be so mad at myself if I gave up!

The next day was so much easier! I woke up with a good nights sleep, feeling alert and refreshed! I had only had maybe 4 hours of sleep because I was up late doing my Christmas knitting and I had a lot to get done. Day two went by smoothly and day three was a breeze!
