In the group, we will be using the 21 Day Fix to learn about healthy eating, moving our bodies and creating new habits. The first 7 days of the group is prep week (you don’t want to have to start your healthy habits during the week of Thanksgiving, right?!) where we will teach you how to shop for healthy food on a budget, learn how to plan time in your schedule to workout and meal prep and so much more. The last 21 days is when we start to put what we learned in prep week, into action! This is perfect timing for the holidays, as you’ll be feeling GREAT by Christmas!

You will be surrounded by other people who are working towards making healthy changes in their life, too. I can’t say enough about how much the group accountability helps as you go through this journey.

The group will be starting prep week on 11/23, but won’t start the actual eating/exercise plan until 11/30. Over the next few days I’ll be posting in this event to provide information and answer questions. If you have questions, never hesitate to post them in here or send me a message.

I only have TEN AVAILABLE SPOTS for new people in this group. If you’d like to reserve your spot today, comment below, join the facebook event or send me a message and we will go over the details!

You are officially invited to SPRING CLEAN your diet and get ready for SUMMER!

Let me be perfectly honest here… I’m not talking about cleaning and organizing your house… you’ll have to look somewhere else for that type of advice!  I’m talking about taking a look in your PANTRY and your FRIDGE and acquiring the tools to have a healthy, happy and confident summer.

How does it work?

Come join me as I help you learn how to change your life using the 21 Day Fix or the 21 Day Fix Extreme.

During the group, each day you will log in, read the daily post, then post your stats to keep you focused on your journey!

Guess what?  You will WANT to quit… and that’s why I’m here!  I will help you stay focused and accountable so this program doesn’t become something else that sits on the shelf and never gets opened.  This time it will be different!

First, you are committed to replacing 1 meal a day with Shakeology for the duration of the program.  Shakeology is not your typical protein shake – it’s meal replacement to keep you full, to give you natural energy, to curb cravings for sweets, and to keep you healthy! It’s what I drank daily during chemo to keep my energy up, keep me nourished, and keep me regular.

We all have GREAT intentions – especially during summer break – to eat healthy, cook and prepare only healthy meals each day but let’s be honest:  That’s not real life with kids.  When life happens, instead of stopping at Starbucks or another fast food option, you can grab a shaker cup, water and Shakeology!  Breakfast on the go minus the stuff that keeps you from reaching your goal.  It’s nutrition in a glass and it’s so easy!  Give me a summer of Shakeology and I will teach you how to plan your meals, make better choices and at the end of the group, you can decide if you want to continue.

For 30 days, you will be committed to working out, focusing on nutrition, and participating in our online accountability groups.  My coaching is FREE and comes with meal plans, my favorite recipes, and lots of motivation.

This isn’t a diet.

This is a lifestyle change.  You are going to learn HOW to make healthy changes that can last a lifetime… while giving you the confident and the energy you need to make this summer with your kids the best one yet.

Reserve your spot here —-> https://www.facebook.com/events/468084340011227/  <—- and I’ll send you a message to help you get started!  The group starts May 26!

Homemade Fruit Rollups!

Part of my mother’s day present included lots of new plants – including 2 flats of strawberries.  It’s be a while until we start picking them, but I wanted to share this fun recipe for a healthy, sweet fruit treat that kids will love (and it’s also 21 Day Fix approved!!).

INGREDIENTS
5 cups fresh fruit
1/2-1 Tbsp honey (optional)

DIRECTIONS
1. Preheat oven to 225.

2. Blend fruit and honey in blender until very smooth.

3. Pour mixture onto parchment lined baking sheets (I usually use 2) and spread until thin. You want it to be very even so it will cook evenly. Otherwise, you will have some dry parts and other burned parts!

4. Remove from oven when the rollups are not stick (about 2-3 hours). Let cool then slice and roll!

Homemade Organic Salsa

I’m about to let you in on a little secret… the world’s best salsa is actually homemade, organic, and way too easy.

I discovered this recipe from a friend about ten years ago.  (Wow, it makes me feel old to admit that.)  Matt and I had it at a party, and it was so good, we purchased a food processor for the express purpose of making this salsa.

It only has 5 ingredients and virtually no prep.  Prepared to have your mind and tastebuds blown.

Ingredients:

2 cans organic diced tomatoes (you could use fresh if you have them.  I’ve always made it this way, and you know what they say about an old dog)

3-4 organic green onions

1 bundle of organic cilantro

4-5 cloves of organic garlic (this is subjective.  Matt and I like a lot of garlic.  You could start with one and keep adding/tasting until you get to the garlic level you prefer).

1 organic jalapeno, seeded

Now here is where it gets amazing – because it’s just so easy.

Step 1 – Roughly chop the green veggies/peel the garlic and throw it all in the food processor.

Step 2 – Pulse for a few seconds until the veggies are all minced.

Step 3 – Add in the tomatoes.

Step 4 – Blend and taste.

You can keep adding garlic or jalapeno to get the taste you are looking for.  It does get tastier as it sits in the fridge, but that’s it!

How easy is that?  And the really cool part – it’s 100% 21 Day Fix approved – all natural, organic salsa that you can use to fill up a green container.  You can also use this salsa to make the dressing for my Taco Salad!

Next week, I’ll show you how to use your leftover salsa (if you have any!) to make some tasty guacamole!

Enjoy!

Is portion control just a gimmick?

I am an avid believe that learning appropriate portion sizes is so important when it comes to controlling our weight.

Many people believe portion control is a current fad and mostly unnecessary. For those who do attempt portion control, “eyeballing it” seems to be the preferred way to measure… and more often than not, our view of appropriate size portions is extremely unrealistic.

But is portion control just a gimmick? According to some researchers, NO! it’s not!

*A recent study from the University of New South Wales concluded that more than any other factor, the size of the serving is what determines how much we eat. Simply put, large servings make us eat more, even when we already know that this will happen…

I think most of us are aware that portion sizes in restaurants and even in our homes have increased considerably over the years. It seems from this study that even knowing this, we still consume the larger portions.

portion control funny meme apply gimmick 21 day fix challenge

If you have trouble with this and really want to apply this study on portion control in a restaurant, for example, don’t wait until they put the double-sized portion in front of you: tell them to cut it in half in the kitchen and box half of it to give you later when you are leaving.

As for applying it at home, plate the food in the kitchen in the appropriate portion for each individual, not serving family-style at the table. Do not make enough for leftovers, unless you are planning on having it for other meals, and in this case, package and store the food before sitting down to eat.

Another great option for implementing portion control is the 21 Day Fix.  On first glance, the containers look tiny (!!) and unlike they would be able to hold enough food to fill you up, but surprisingly, I have NEVER been hungry following the 21 Day Fix portion control meal plan.

If you want to try portion control at home and have someone hold you accountable to your goals…  I’m your girl!

Whether you want to:

  • lose weight
  • gain energy
  • commit to a healthier lifestyle

I can help you with all those things in my 21 Day Fix Challenge!

In the group, I’ll share 21 of my favorite crock pot meals, and you’ll get the results you are looking for or your money back, guaranteed.

Studies Show Accountability Partners Help You Achieve Greater Success!

hey you want to be my accountability partner amy allen challenge group 21 day fix benefits

What is the number one reason people order a program like P90X, Insanity, or the 21 Day Fix and never even open the box?

No accountability.

When customers order from an infomercial or website with no coach, no support, and no accountability, odds are pretty high that the box won’t even be opened… and if it is, chances are even lower that you’ll finish 1/3 of the program.

That’s where people like me come in! As your personal coach, I’m here to make sure you DO open that box, that you DO commit to the program, that you DO finish it and get the awesome results you are looking for.

Check out these benefits of accountability from The Art of Simple:

1. A LITTLE FRIENDLY COMPETITION

If your “accountability partner” has set the same goal as you, a little bit of friendly competition can go a long way. Last year, some friends of ours both decided they wanted to lose weight. They created their own Biggest Loser competition, and the one who lost the highest percentage of weight at the end of 8 weeks was declared the winner. Knowing they were competing for a prize (even just the prize of being able to say “I won!”) helped them both stay on track and achieve their individual goals.

2. ENCOURAGEMENT TO KEEP GOING

Sometimes we attach so much significance to achieving a goal that when we experience a setback — which is inevitable at some point along the way — we just throw our hands up in the air and decide that the goal isn’t worth pursuing after all. An outside party can encourage you during setbacks and plateaus or when you experience a lack of motivation, helping you look past the momentary failure to see the bigger goal.

accountability partner buddy buddies friends benefits encouragement lets do it

3. AN HONEST LOOK

If an accountability partner is just patting you on the back or nodding their head when you make excuses, then they’re not really holding you accountable after all. An important part of being accountable to someone is giving them permission to be honest with you. They should be comfortable telling you when you’ve gotten off track or pointing out areas where you may want to focus more of your efforts.

4. IDEAS AND INSPIRATION

Sometimes, you may look for someone who is more of a mentor than an accountability partner. If they’ve walked the road before you and achieved the goal you’re striving for, they can share ideas, tips and experiences that will help you along the way.

… At the end of the day, just knowing that someone is going to ask you how you’re doing with a goal or resolution can be the extra bit of motivation you need to stay on track.

Lasagna Soup

lasagna soup meatballs clean eating 21 day fix 21dayfix recipes meal plan amy allen fitness health approved

Lasagna Soup!

(Makes two servings – each serving has 1 red, 2 yellow, 1 green, and 1 blue)

Notes: I make the meatballs and pasta in advance, then make the broth. To make it easy to measure portions for the 21 Day Fix, I add them to the pan after the stew is prepared. It’s a little extra work, but it makes measuring easier. I also don’t add all the meatballs – I measure about 1 ½ cup into the stew, and then freeze the rest for next time.

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups Italian Meatballs (get recipe here!)

1 cup Fusilli pasta, cooked

2 T diced white onion

2 t minced garlic

1 8 oz can tomato sauce

2 cups chicken broth

2 T grated parmesan cheese

Handful chopped basil leaves

Handful chopped italian parsley

more salt and pepper to taste 1/2 c (minus 2 T)

shredded mozzarella cheese

chopped Italian parsley

Step by Step Directions

Add oil, onion, and garlic to the pot. Add a little salt and pepper to taste. Stir and cook until soft, 3-4 minutes.

Add chicken broth and tomato sauce.

Bring to a boil and add cooked pasta and cooked meatballs.

Turn down the heat and simmer 5-10 min or until warm.

Mix in Parmesan cheese, and fresh basil and parsley.

Top each bowl with a mixture of mozzarella cheese and parsley.

Italian Meatballs

1 pound ground 93/7 beef

1/2 pound ground pork

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

2 large eggs

1/2 cup grated white onion

1 tablespoon minced garlic

1/4 cup chopped Italian parsley

1 1/2 teaspoons Kosher salt

1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

To make the meatballs, mix all meatball ingredients by hand in a large bowl.  Roll mixture into bite size balls and place on foil lined baking sheet.  You can brown these on the stove top before baking them, or just bake them. I like to bake just because it doesn’t use up an oil serving.

Bake in oven for 15-20 min at 350.

How many meatballs are in one serving depends on how big you make them.  I measure out 3/4 of a cup and count these meatballs as 1 red serving.  There is a small amount of cheese and onions, but I unless I’m eating the whole batch of meatballs (which I’m not), I don’t stress about it too much.

I like to use these meatballs in my Lasagna Soup.  You can find the recipe for that here!

21 Day of Gratitude, Grace, and Good Food

21 days of grace gratitude good food holiday challenge group amy allen alex blaine 21 day fix 21dayfix

November is underway and around this time of year, I always start to feel grateful – I’ve always felt that way, but since my struggle with cancer, I feel that way even more.

You see, I started chemotherapy in November.  And during that month, three years ago, I didn’t feel grateful.  I felt scared. I felt depressed. We had recently moved to a new city, and I truly felt like “What’s the point of making new friends if I’m about to die?” So I didn’t make new friends – I closed myself off from meeting new people and hid inside the walls of myself.

Have you ever felt like that?

A part of me thought that first treatment might actually kill me. I remember crying with Matt on our balcony, with no idea what the future held for us, for our family, for our kids…  But that was three years ago, and since struggling with cancer, I’ve learned that the things that don’t kill you make you STRONGER.

Having cancer was the biggest blessing in my life. It taught me so many things, but chief among them was the ability to appreciate and embrace gratitude, grace, and good food.

And thus the Gratitude, Grace and Good Food challenge was born.

I want to invite you to a special opportunity this month only to help you meet your goals – not just physically, but mentally as well.  I want to help you move beyond the obstacles that are blocking your path right now.

From the point of view of someone who spent many years taking her health for granted, I want to introduce you to a new way of looking at your goals. Let’s take a good look at all the things you wen through in 2014 – the good, the bad, and the ugly – and look to see how they ALL blessed your life.

Of course, at this time of year, it’s HARD to make YOURSELF a priority – but that’s exactly what I’m asking you to do.  While the craziness of the holidays is right outside your door, I want you to take your mental and physical health and make it a priority.  It would be easy to say “I’ll start in January” when the rest of the world takes back control of their lives, but why wait?  Don’t wait for the New Year –  This is the time to make a change.  Put your health first.  Surround yourself with others who positively impact your life. And most of all, take the time to be show gratitude to everyone and everything around you, give yourself a little grace, and still enjoy some good food.

What do I suggest?

  • Support and Accountability via a private Facebook group
  • Being surrounded by other positive women who will lift you up
  • Daily Encouragement and Motivation
  • Weekly meal plans, snack ideas and party treat ideas so you won’t feel deprived!
  • A attitude of appreciation for all that has happened in 2014.

I’m not asking you to start a diet right now.  This isn’t a diet. This is an opportunity to make the most of your holiday season, to slow down, to remember the things we have to be grateful for, and still enjoy our favorite holiday foods but in moderation.

To participate in this challenge and receive your complimentary gift, please send me a message at mrsamy@hotmail.com or contact me at Amy Allen Fitness

The group starts Dec 1 and I’m enrolling the first 10 ladies who commit this week! I look forward to helping you achieve your health and fitness goals.
