What is the 3 Day Refresh??

You may have heard me talk about the Shakeology Cleanse before – it’s a great way to drop around 5 pounds in three days, following a mostly liquid diet, and you can read more about it here.  But as great as the results from the Shakeology Cleanse were, it wasn’t an ideal way to clean out your body and really detox.  Shakeology is an awesome product, but that isn’t what it was designed for.

Luckily for us, Beachbody saw what we were doing and knew we needed a better solution.  A healthy way to detox your body quickly, to safely lose weight, and even to jumpstart your weight loss results from one of our other awesome programs like the 21 Day Fix.  And so they created the 3 Day Refresh.

I have done cleanses before, and they are hard.  But one of the things I love about this cleanse is that it isn’t strictly liquids.  It includes the best of every detox program I have heard from – Shakeology, tea, juice, clean eating, and supplements and it combines them all into an easy to follow program for three days that delivers amazing results.

I am in pretty good shape.  For the most part I eat clean and stay away from processed foods.  And because of that, I didn’t expect amazing results.  But what happened for me BLEW. ME. AWAY.

But before I share my results with you, let me tell you a little bit about how the refresh works.

3 day refresh meal plan

Each day, you wake up and get started with a cup of water followed by Shakeology.  You can add in fruit or eat it on the side.  Mid morning, you can have a cup of tea and you drink Fiber Sweep, a supplement designed to gently clean out your insides.

For lunch, you drink Vanilla Fresh, a specially designed protein drink with more protein than Shakeology and vitamins specifically geared to sustain your body during the cleanse.  You also get to have a veggie serving and a healthy fat.  Mid afternoon, you can drink another cup of tea along with an afternoon snack, another veggie or a fresh juice – I chose the juice option and it was the perfect amount of sweet to keep me going.

For dinner, it’s another shake along with a dinner option – a little more than just veggies – and you can accompany that with veggie broth if you need just a little more.  Post dinner, you have the option of one more cup of tea.

Each day you follow the same routine, but since there are multiple food options, you can change it up some what.  I made a video diary of each day I followed the refresh, how I felt, what I ate, and what I did.  Here are the videos –

Exercise is optional during the three days.  By the end of three days, I felt great but there were times when I felt weak, so listen to your body.  My results were little to light exercise on two days.

One thing I added to my refresh was a daily detox bath.  I have long believed in detox baths and I thought it would be relaxing and hopefully intensify my results.  Each day I did a different one – I elaborate more on them in the videos, and I also plan to post about that later this week.

So after three days, here are my results – I was down three pounds AND I lost THREE INCHES in my waist alone.  My pictures aren’t amazing… but I am not sucking in… coming off a weekend in Vegas, I was pretty bloated from bad food.  But THREE INCHES????  I was in shock.  I measured multiple times because I was sure that I was wrong.  My main waist measurement went from 29.5 inches to 26.5 inches.  In three days.

These are my skinny jeans and my skinny top.  The one I never wear because it’s too small… and it fit.  And beyond that, the way I felt?  Amazing.

21 Day Fix: Weekly Meal Plan #2

Ok, I’ll be honest – the first week of the 21 Day Fix didn’t go exactly the way I planned…  Love the meal plan, love shakeology, love the workout and love my little portion control containers… but even with all that, life happens.  I spent most of my week in the car driving back and forth to funerals, which is not what I was expecting to do this week.  But life happens and you do the best you can, and the next week, you don’t quit!!  You make a new plan and keep going!

Total Body Cardio workout from the 21 Day Fix

Here’s a little sneak peek of the Total Body Cardio workout from the 21 Day Fix!

Each workout is 30 minutes long with a three minute warmup and three minute cool down. Within each video, you will do a series of exercises, each for one minute with a 20 second break in between.

My personal thoughts on this first workout is that it was pretty intense. And although some of it *seemed* easy at the time, I could feel it the next day.

Despite that, my feeling is that the program IS very beginner friendly. During the entire workout, there is a modifier showing how you can do the moves at a lower intensity.

The information that comes with the workout suggests that you can use a resistance band or weights but after doing this workout, I highly recommend weights. I think it would be more effective and the DVD does not show you how to modify the exercises to use the resistance band.

What does a typical plate look like on the 21 Day Fix?

So I’ve been seeing this question a lot – what will I be able to eat?  15 pounds in 21 days??  Is that even possible?  I don’t want to starve myself…

Well, guess what?  You don’t have to!!

For those of you wondering about how much you can eat on the fix, I am in the lowest calorie bracket (no one will ever eat below 1200 calories) and I eat:

5 Reds (proteins), 2 Yellows (carbs), 4 Greens (vegetables), 2 Purples (fruit), 1 Blue (nuts/healthy fats) and 1 Orange (oils) every single day.

Here is what my dinner looked like tonight:

I had a red portion of Southwestern Chicken, a green/oil portion of Spicy Green Beans, and a yellow portion of Garlic and Basil Quinoa.  It was delicious, healthy, and I was totally full.

When you eat foods that are full of dense nutrients, you can eat a TON of it. A majority of people  are used to eating high calorie, low nutrient foods – but they don’t fill us up, help fuel and heal our bodies or keep us satisfied, so we are always hungry and craving more.

What is a Challenge Group?

The beginning of a new year is typically the time every one makes New Year’s resolutions. You are going to eat healthy. You are going to work out. And you are DEFINITELY going to lose that last 10 pounds. So you buy a gym membership (and of course the gym is busy in January!!). You take your turn on the treadmill and one hour later, you’ve burned 30 calories.

I’m not anti gym – as a homeschool mama, I love my membership to the YMCA since it also comes with free childcare and is the perfect escape when I need a break from the chaos that is my life… but when it comes to getting a real workout in, I can do that at home in ½ the time, without the commute and since I am a busy mom with three kids, running a business from home, I need to save all the time I can.

I have been working as a coach for Beachbody for about 18 months now. I started when I was going through chemotherapy and drinking Shakeology really helped me during my treatments. I never expected that this would be the start of a career for me, but having cancer was a wake up call for me.  I wanted to be around to take care of my kids, and having cancer made me realize that I needed to change the way I was eating, exercising, and taking care of my body.

By the end of my first year as a coach, I was making as much as I used to make at my full time job, before I stopped working to stay at home with my kids. By this summer, I had doubled that amount. I’m on track to be making a six figure income this year, working from home.  In my first year, I also ended up earning a free trip to Disneyworld with my family and then another one to Argentina.  In my second year, I earned a trip to Dana Point California and a cruise to Cozumel and Grand Cayman.

My name is Amy.  I’m many things, but among them, I’m a military wife, a homeschool mom, a cancer survivor, a health and fitness coach, and an avid reader.  I have moved more times than you can count on both hands AND both of your feet, so I’m also an expert at being the new girl.

I met my husband, Matt, in high school – he was my high school sweetheart – and we married shortly after graduation.  He joined the military and I went to school to earn a BSE in Elementary Education and a MS in Education Technology.  We stayed in one place long enough for me to finish college, and then I started following him all around the globe.

Together, we have three very sweet kids.  The first is a daughter who is 10 and in 5th grade.  I have homeschooled her since she turned four.  She was preschool age and about to be enrolled in her fourth school because we were moving (again!).  So we pulled her out of school and never looked back.

A few years later, we added our two crazy sons to the mix – ages 2 and 4.  An interesting fact about my kids… none of them were born in the same place – Missouri, Japan, and Arizona.  I love being a full time stay at home mom and wouldn’t trade that job for anything.

When my youngest was just three weeks old, I found a lump in my neck.  When he was 5 months old, I started chemotherapy treatments for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.  That year was the hardest year of my life and it really made me realize how I hadn’t been taking care of my body.  I had taken my health for granted, and 6 months of chemo taught me not to do that any more.

When I was diagnosed, I decided to start drinking Shakeology.  I knew I wouldn’t feel like eating or taking care of myself, but I thought if I could just get this one thing in my body everyday, I wouldn’t have to worry about what I ate.

Once I started drinking Shakeology, I was hooked.  I couldn’t believe how good I felt.  Here I was, going through chemotherapy, and on my off weeks, I was feeling better than I had in years.  And the more research I did about the product, the more I believed in it.

Towards the end of my treatments, I decided to become a Beachbody coach.  I had no experience in health and fitness, only my personal story and the desire to help other people discover what I had found in Shakeology, and to help them reclaim their health.

Now I run monthly challenges to help others reach their health and fitness goals.  I help them learn to eat clean, exercise, and take care of their body.  Aside from being a mom, it’s the most fulfilling job I’ve ever had and it’s something I truly believe in.

Fast forward 18 months:  In the past I had tried other at home business models (like Tupperware and Stampin’ Up) and failed with them.  I had been to the gym approximately 4 times in my life and my husband laughed when I became a “coach.”

I had every excuse to fail in this business, but I chose to succeed because I truly believe in the product.  Now I am in the best shape of my life and I’m earning a full time income working from home while I homeschool my kids.
